Life cycle assessment consultant
We are looking for a project employee or consultant in the field of life cycle assessments to strengthen our team in Schaffhausen in the long term. Start of work (approx. November 2024 or later) and working hours (60-80% at 40h/week).
Your tasks
- Preparation of life cycle assessment case studies and environmental product declarations on various topics together with national and international clients using the SimaPro life cycle assessment software.
- Sales, training, and support for the SimaPro software
- Collection and documentation of life cycle inventory data in EcoSpold format via an Excel interface and sale of ESU databases
- Lectures at scientific conferences and presentation of project results
- Acquisition tasks for projects, software, and data sales
- Administrative tasks e.g. invoicing and quotations, maintenance of the website, IT support for servers and Microsoft administration
We expect
Applicants for this position should have qualifications in the following areas:
- Environmental engineer, environmental scientist, or comparable degree in a scientific or technical field
- (Initial) experience in the field of life cycle assessments or working with other environmental models such as EPD, ecological input-output analyses or CO2 footprints
- Good understanding of numbers and sound knowledge of Excel and Word programs
- Interest in computers and programming, e.g. in the use of AI, Excel macros, Microsoft Azure Server, WordPress webpage, API online interfaces, Microsoft Admin
- Good oral and written skills in English and German (possibly French)
- Independent and customer-oriented way of working in a small team
- Commitment to ecological concerns that goes beyond professional activities
- Additional knowledge e.g. in marketing or didactics is an advantage
We offer
An interesting and varied job with constant reference to current environmental policy issues. With us, you will have the opportunity to take on and work on responsible tasks independently. We are interested in long-term co-operation. Some of the work can be done from home. For legal reasons, however, on-site presence is required at least once a week or one week a month in Schaffhausen. Furthermore, more than 50% of the working must be in Switzerland.

Internship Life Cycle Assessment
You have heard about life cycle assessments in your studies, and now you would like to develop your skills further? We offer students interested in ecology the opportunity to do internships or student research projects at ESU-services in Schaffhausen. The minimum duration for internships is 3 months and 6 months for paid internships.
Your tasks
- Collection and documentation of life cycle inventory data in EcoSpold format, input into Excel and import into SimaPro.
- Evaluation of small case studies, e.g. on meals.
- Internship project with preparation of a life cycle assessment report on a jointly agreed topic (previous examples: pets, fish, soap).
- Support with administrative tasks.
We expect
For this position, applicants should have the following qualifications and interests:
- Environmental engineer, environmental scientist or similar with at least a Bachelor degree in natural science or engineering
- First lecture on Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Management and/or Life Cycle Assessment Software
- Interest in numbers and working with Excel
- Knowledge of Word
- Language skills for written work in English (and/or German)
- Ability to work independently in a small team
- Possibly own idea for an interesting topic
- Willingness to work on site at least once a week of one week per month
