Providing credibility for the declaration of environmental impacts in EPD
The reliability and credibility of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) results can be increased by an independent verification process. ESU-services offers verifying environmental product declarations (EPD) as approved individual verifier for different EPD platforms.
Verifications of EPDs according to EN15804 as an approved individual verifier for different organisations
It is essential for the market acceptance of EPD that the data and other environmental information given are considered reliable and trustworthy. The underlying data, the data handling and the EPD itself should therefore be subject to an independent verification and official registration. Niels Jungbluth is listed as an approved individual verifier for the international EPD® System and IBU-Bau. We can also work for other systems like PEP or KBOB. ESU can thus verify LCA-based data, additional environmental information and the EPD® written in English and German.
EPD platforms for publication of EPD
To register and publish the EPD, the client must register with an operator. The fees are set by this organisation and depend, among other things, on the number of EPDs published. The following table shows platform operators for registration and publication of EPDs with which ESU cooperated in the past.

Questions for providing an offer
Dr. Niels Jungbluth has a great deal of experience in verifying environmental product declarations. The actual cost for a verification depends on the following factors (please provide more information if not yet available):
- Standard against which verification is performed (ISO 14040, PCR, EN 15084, etc.)
- PCR that is applied
- Which platform is foreseen for the EPD publication (e.g. environdec, IBU, KBOB, PEP ecopassport, etc.) and general programme requirements?
- Which products are declared?
- Number of pages in the background LCA report and EPD statement to be read?
- How many EPDs are based on one LCA report?
- Which stages(A-D) and sub-stages of EPD reporting in upstream, core, downstream and reuse sections are modelled?
- Number of newly modelled process steps?
- Type of availability of the life cycle inventory (preferably complete export from SimaPro)?
- Experience of the authors with reviewed and verified LCA/EPD studies?
