Dr. Niels Jungbluth Appointed to the Technical Advisory Body of the International EPD System
We are pleased to announce that Niels Jungbluth, Ph.D., CEO of ESU-services GmbH, has been appointed as a member of the Technical Committee (TC) of the International EPD System (IES) in February 2026.

Based in Switzerland, Niels brings more than two decades of experience in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) across diverse sectors including construction products, food systems, energy technologies, and material supply chains. Since 2014 Niels is approved individual verifier for the international EPD® System. His long-standing commitment to methodological quality and transparent environmental information makes him a valuable addition to the Committee.
About the Technical Committee
The Technical Committee acts as a key advisory body to the IES Secretariat, providing expert oversight and guidance on technical and methodological aspects of the programme. Its responsibilities include:
- Serving as the PCR Review Panel
- Recommending updates to general LCA methodologies and addressing technical issues within the programme
- Providing technical support to the Secretariat
- Approving individual verifiers and recommending procedures to monitor their competence
- Conducting sample checks to ensure that verifications comply with the General Programme Instructions (GPI) and applicable PCRs
- Reviewing medium and major updates to the General Programme Instructions
The Committee consists of up to 20 independent experts in the fields of LCA, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), and PCR development, representing a broad geographic and sectoral diversity. Members serve three‑year terms with the possibility of renewal.
